I’m offering to give you the tools you need, to coach you – and to help you move forward in an attempt to ease the pain in a long term situation you did not wish for.
Something that might ruin everything and leave you decapitated and helpless. You lose control and pain controls life.
It often gives depressive symptoms and it’s a major stressor that follows you throughout life. Important parts of treating something like this is to understand pain, what it is and why we feel it as well as finding meaning in life and focus on something more than just the pain.
At the same time you’ll have to handle the stress it comes with. It’s not rare to get something close to a burnout because of the pain.
Painkillers of various types are useful, sure, but we’ve learned lately that just medication is far from the whole picture. Knowledge about the pain can do a major difference. Part knowledge. Part exercise to actually train pain to get less pain. Pain science combined with tending to stress and depressive issues if they’re around can make a great difference.
We will do this in a pragmatic, hands-on and action based way combined with lifestyle changes and add theory to really understand why we do what we do. Eclectic and wide. But here is the hard part: I cannot take care of you and do it for you. So you must let me teach you to take care of yourself and give you the tools and the knowledge for you to just be fine without me. Which is what you want anyway, isn’t it?
You shouldn’t want to be dependent on any sort of therapy over years unless it’s absolutely necessary, and that’s often the case – people desire to be independent. To be as independent as possible of therapy, therapist and others as possible is often the end goal. Or at least the wish and desire. If it’s possible depends on the situation. Sometimes it’s completely necessary to keep medicating or use passive treatments afterwards. Sometimes people get off opioids and other medications they’ve used for years when they didn’t think they had a choice.
“Active treatment” by taking care of you body and mind is always necessary afterwards as well. That’s not stranger than the fact that life goes on. That’s primarily the parts we’ll tend to you and I. How you can affect and handle things yourself. It’s generally wide and covers everything from your environment to physical and mental aspects.
Plenty of long term pain-patients are not just heavily dependent on drugs, but also on their manual therapists, may it be chiropractors, massage therapists or whatever else. As long as everything else is done as well and the manual therapy mitigates suffering further, I don’t mind. But for everything else to be in order you’ll have to tried a few things…
If the treatment solemnly depends on opioids and manual therapy I do mind. Quite a lot. Long term pain is way more complex than that.
My general rule of thumb is that nothing ever really fixes itself. We will pinpoint and we will change.
Change takes time and effort – but it’s necessary. To get change from where you are we’ll of course have to act to make the change. You have to want this to do it. This will take time. But it is time for a change. You will spend time in new ways – but if you are a match, that’s worth all the work and hassle. Always.
Let me guide you and help you change in an effort to ease your suffering, learn how to rest, how to be right here right now, regain some energy and in the end regain your life that pain stole.
We will for instance look at
– What to do with your actual physical pain to relieve it
– Tools to ease the ever present stress response
– How to increase your energy-level
– How to improve sleep
– How to change behavior to battle the kinesophobia and depressive symptoms if you’ve got any.
– Implement physical activities. You need it.
But I can only show you the way, try to teach you, hold your hand or point you in the right direction. I might have to be grim, bold and blunt if necessary, to make it more of a nudge or in some cases a shove with words (if that’s even possible?!) – we MUST get YOU there. Not me. Let’s give you the power to take control of your own life, ease the pain, master the suffering it leads to and regain what has been lost.
Does that sound like a good idea? To actually make a plan and try to get somewhere? Press the button below and fill out your details and a description of your situation and I’ll get back to you.
